JayKin - Sneakers + Video Games
A little over a month old, Sneakers + Video Games is a very nice update in the book of JayKin. The Vancouver based emcee, who spends a lot of time in Japan, has been a highly skilled West Coast representative for a minute. With this mixtape he updates a lot of his formulas, taking a step into lower tempos and even more laid back deliveries, even while dealing with darker vibes. True to the title, he has some heavy duty video game hip hop tracks, but also some very open and synthy jams too, very new school mixed with the true school. This has been pretty steady on my list lately. Proper shit.
SonReal - The Lightyear Mixtape
Some people have been more into the last SonReal Mixtape, The Lightyear Mixtape, and it is dope for sure - some heavy tracks on it, so check it out too, but I feel JayKin more. Very much a personal style preference more than anything, cause both of these dudes are heavy. SonReal also reps the west via Vancouver.
