When Meta threw up a mix from Marco Primo at the start of May, there was a Dilla-tinged remix of Mayer Hawthornes classic, 'Just Ain't Gonna Work Out,' that absolutely knocked our socks off. It was by some guy named Astronote and we found A remix of the song by Astronote, but not THE song on the mix. That took some more investigative work, and I DID finally find it here, the deal is that they're keeping it under wraps because its gonna be on Hawthornes next album.

In the process of finding this track, I found out more about this dude named Astronote... He's what the hip hop community refers to as fresh to death. Hailing from Paris, France, he's my most recent temporary favorite producer. Why? He's got a sound that is entirely his own, straddling that fine line between 'proper thump' (ala Black Milk or Mr Porter) and 'drenched with soul' (ala 9th Wonder or Jay Dilla) as you can clearly see being shown off in that Mayer Hawthorne remix I linked above. Today, I got 3 choice items from the best thing to come from France since the abolishment of the Three Estates. Get it in ya.
