Last Wednesday, I got to experience something.

Silkie, the aptly named producer whose beats create a similar sensory effect to the fabric his name is derived from, came through Calgary and absolutely blew my mind. Some DJ's have showmanship, some have some killer mixes, some know what track has to be played when to keep a party moving, and some are creative as all hell. Silkie combined all these elements and then some.

He was a spectacle, showing everyone in attendance the musicianship that is required of marquee DJ's. Even if some folks were unaware of the fact that nearly all of the tracks he played were ones he laboriously crafted himself in the studio, he was non-stop action. He made seamless transitions into tracks that kept the mix flowing in a proper direction and that were directly in accordance with what the crowd demanded. On top of all that, he was relentless on the mixer, manipulating the tracks to perfection with mastery of his effects.

In a semester where I've been constantly challenging myself and stripping away all my free time, I put my worries and responsibilities away for one occasion that I knew I couldn't miss. Silkie delivered exactly what I was looking for in what Dan Solo called "hands down, one of the best dubstep sets of 2010."
