4004 is the Future

"You let your shit shit bubble quietly... AND THEN YOU BLOW!"
- Jay Z and Memphis Bleak in "Coming of Age"

(BASS MUSIC MURDERATION)

It's been awhile folks. Hope you've all been well. I'm sorry I've fallen off the posting wagon but I'm busy as shit and have decided I will just post when I can. Might be 7 times in 7 days or 1 time in a month. Just check the blog when ya can and trust that I promise to only deliver the coldest heat. You know I love you readers! It always bugs me to slack off....

...However, while the internet persona may falter the musical movement never sleeps. Calgary is blowing up. It may be a little self-indulgent to say it, but my friends in the Light and Soul + Rinse Out circuits are the figureheads and forerunners of an amazing new culture. Maybe not new, just evolving. Rising up. Modern Math overcame the pressure from Johnny Law to move on up to the higher ground of the Marquee Room. Kai and Cody from the L and S familia took their work to the tops of buildings in the bestest of ways. I continue to meet, or maintain friendships with, so many amazing, artistic and abstract minds that seem to be coming together in a fate bending way. I don't want to name names because it isn't anything inclusive. It is a state of mind that is emerging among all the heads in the party'n'arts scene in Calgary right now. A collective unconscious of positive energy. In the few times I get to go out it seems stronger, in the rare instance I get to report to you and yours I'm happy to brag about it. If you live in Calgary, you get to witness the next.

Two of the people I include in this movement are DJ Logo and MrDr (Mister Doctor) - who join together in a musical amalgamation to form 4004. The name 4004 itself is derived from the address of the house they used to be roommates at where each of them originally allowed the other to influence and cultivate their musical tastes. Those tastes are far-reaching, from house to dubstep to drum'n'bass to hip hop and everything in between. Bass Music Murderation. I got a host of their work for you to taste tonight.

To begin with, we all know DJ Logo on this blog and he's got 3 new mixes for the massive since we last spoke. 'Never Far From Home' has been my number one jam for a minnit.

DJ Logo - October 8th Minimix
DJ Logo - Never Far From Home

DJ Logo - November 23rd Minimix

Next, we got the first official recorded mix from MrDr. This ones a nice, mellowed out journey through some low end house and dubstep. Spacey. Funky. Dopesauce.

MrDr - Introducing: Mister Doctor ('listen only' for now, big debut shortly forthcoming)

Lastly, we got some of the seminal works from these two as up-and-coming producers. Check the original tracks from these two as they come together in unison.

Notorious BIG - Things Done Changed (4004 drumstep rmx)

Shad - Heard You Had a Voice Like an Angel (4004 dubstep rmx)

Soul II Soul - Back to Life (4004 energetic VIP)

So take a taste, let it sit, chew it up and gobble it down. This is only a sampling of what's to come from these badmen and the Calgary scene at large. Stay tuned for a feature post on MrDr, soon to come with original beats and his forthcoming mix when it's completed.

Peace folks. It's been too damn long!
