Grey Days
( DUBSTEP / IDM / BEATS )
Eskmo - Colorbrain Mix
My homie Chadio initially put me on to this dude Eskmo who made funky blocky beats. Lots of epic and natural (creaking forests, drips and clings and so forth) sounds and elements mixed with some minimal glitchy stuff. Still hits hard too. This mix he did for the people over at brainfeeder (Flying Lotus) and I am very thankful he did. Check the image above for the tracklisting.
Also, speaking of Flying Lotus, make sure you peep this game that he did the soundtrack for at least once. The game is essentially a bugged out version of asteroid, but its a whole different vibe with his beats on it. The game is called Destroy. Blow up random stuff to the sound design of Flying Lotus.
More on the mellow tip? Like talking about old school video games? How about this?

Coleco - December 09 Mix
Personally, although I like almost all of this mix, I think that parts of it near the top are a dipped a little too heavy in the flail sauce. That said, overall it's a dope mix with a bunch of new tunes I've never heard before now, new cats I never knew about. Guess where Coleco hails from? Bristol. Gotta get there someday, see what the deal is... lotsa dope cats hail from Bristol. I know that some of you out there will be heavy into this mix. It is a heavy mix and well worth a listen through. It will be in my headphones often.
Now I'm all down for some liquid and atmospheric stuff. Check out what comes next.

SirReal - Days Go Slow Mix
Really smooth and laid back rhythms coming from SirReal. Mostly newer stuff with some older joints thrown in for good measure. If you are into what you hear on this mix look into this guy cause he's got a bunch of mixes out on the mellow and liquid tip. He's got a soundclick page here where you can mind his mixes and seriously this dude puts out a new mix almost every month, if not more. Respect.
Still need a little more??

Outasight - Further
Having heard the track 'Brand New Day' for this release on a seperate mixtape somewheres had already put Outasight on my radar. Once I saw that he teamed up with LRG to put this out I was curious enough to get into it. It's a pretty funky and soulful play between knocking beats, elements of rock, soul, blues, straight up raps, and some distinctive vocal workings. I was surprised... in a good way... how much I like it. Check it out for yadamnself. I think you might be surprised too.
Hope this helps you with your own grey days.
