'Devices'

(HIP HOP)

Some of you out there may be familiar with Wal Martian, a producer, DJ, and record collector based out of Calgary, while others may be scratching their heads in curiosity about the man with the clever alias. Either way, please take my word that he is a man/alien with a vast knowledge of old records and players, and has a huge collection of vinyl and tape spanning back almost 100 years. I should know as he inherited maybe eight or nine crates of records from me and my studio mate Josh when we moved to Vancouver. For this martian, though, that was just a drop in the bucket. He also has some amazing old analog gear, collecting old synthesizers, tape machines, studio pieces and the like.

Although it would be respectable enough if he just collected and archived this music of mankind, he does more - he makes music. Good, dusty, musical, creepy, ambient, space age, solid state, analog, out of this world beats that tell stories and bring down civilizations. His first commercial release was entitled 'Martian Law' and it was an incredibly deep instrumental album that was embraced and played on heavy rotation by the many people in the lucky position of hearing it or owning a copy for themselves. He has several super secret projects on the go at any given time, but he just appeared for a brief moment in seventeen countries across the globe at the same time to deliver the news that he has a new offering for free download and enjoyment. It consists of some beat outlines and sketches from 2008 that never made their way into outer orbit and thus are here for anyone to vibe on.

Feel free to check out his myspace page too.
