What Lasts?

The things that mean the most in life are those things that leave a lasting impression. These are the things that are closely attached to a certain emotion, and when reminisced upon at a later point will always bring you back to that certain point in time. In my life the 2 things that will always have this effect on me are relationships and music. When I think back to any point in my life, the stages are usually broken up into what I was listening to at the time and the moments are broken up into who I shared them with.

From the time I started really getting into music, hip hop and the arts in general when I was moving into my adolescent years, the dapper mother fucker in the picture above was right there along for the ride with me. Peter, aka DJ Staypuft, myself and our 3rd partner in crime Eric would blaze in my garage, listen to music, play chess, draw and discuss random bullshit for hours on end. Beyond all that, the 3 of us would jam (me on bass, Eric on guitar, and Peter on drums), and when Meta got his tables it didn't take long before me and Peter were fucking around on them whenever he wasn't. Looking back on it, the discussions we had in that garage and jam sessions in the basement went a long way to forming what we became.

Out of those years of adolescence emerged the man who made the mix you'll hear today. Staypuft is an absolutely incredible artist, currently entering his third year at ACAD, a damn funky drummer and a versatile DJ who is equally comfortable spinning drum'n'bass, dubstep and hip hop (the 'genre holy trinity' of Shadow Shogun). In this mix, he exhibits his signature headnodic sound, moving through the silkiest of liquid drum'n'bass before settling into that bass-filled funk to close out the mix for you to enjoy as your summer draws its last breath.

I am extremely pleased to share this mix with everyone today. Not only is it one of my oldest homies' first time recording anything, but it is an amazing mix that high lights exactly the sounds I love in drum'n'bass. It is at the crossroads of friendship and music, and built to last.
