Dilla-delphonics
(HIP HOP)
Wuddup everybody? I found something nice for everyone today. All the Calgary Shadow Shogun fans should know by now that the legendary Roots crew are going to be in town Sunday night. I've had the blessing of seeing them once before and, despite getting a little to messed up and having foggier memory of the night than I was planning, I can say that they are the best live act I have ever seen. (side note: I didn't get blackout drunk or nothing, but The Roots are such a big deal for me that I planned to stay blind sober for the sake of remembering the show. Yah, they are a big deal)
If you don't know who The Roots are you fail at life, straight up. They are pretty universally recognized, above and below ground, as one of the best around. Starting up in Philly with their debut album back Organix back in 1993, the band has had as big an impact any could hope to in the music world. Blackthought is the headlining MC, but he's had help over the years from guys like Malik B, Dice Raw and Peedi Peedi. The band (known without MC's as the Illadelphonics) is an extremely accomplished group of musicians led by drummer Questlove, who organized the Philadelphia Experiment, was the resident DJ for the Chappelle show and is one of the biggest brains in hip hop, who have recently toured with Jay Z and are the in house band for Jimmy Fallon (who is a fucking tool, and I hate, but I'm trying to convey how far-reaching these guys are). They have a whole host of classic albums and work with many many many artists over the years.
What I got today is a nice little tribute album/mix they put together in honour of the late Jay Dilla, I'm pretty sure you gotta download each track individually, which took me about 67 seconds. Don't be lazy, download, listen, love...
