A Dash of Soul

(SOUL/HIP HOP/FUNK)

The dapper gentleman you see in the picture above these words is Cee Lo Green. He is a smooth man. Most people probably know him as the guy from Gnarls Barkley who sang Crazy (crazy fact about 'Crazy' - it's the first track to go straight to the top of the UK charts based on digital sales alone), but he's actually had a long career that built up to the collaboration with Dangermouse. He even sang back up vocals for that TLC track 'Waterfalls' way back in 1995.

He got started with, and is best known for his inclusion in, the Goodie Mobb, with crewmembers Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo Goodie. Beyond just these members, they comprised something of a connecting supercrew of the late 90's southern rap scene with guys like Killer Mike and Outkast. He's had a long and successful solo career lacing tracks with his throwback style that reminds the listener of old school soul-cats like Al Green (no relation, Cee Lo's real last name is Callaway). What I got for you today is his solo effort from back in 2004. Download, listen, love...
