AFTA 1 is one heavy artist. Heavy in the way that makes you feel something - not the diabetes inducing kind of heavy. Emotive and soulful expressions come from this DJ / producer / remix artist all day errrday, most often in the form of gorgeous filtered soul clap beats. Great mix for the grey blue dusk and night time marauding.

Following in the vein of some recent liquid drum and bass posts from my brother Acumen comes this SirReal mix. I think that I have posted about this relentlessly prolific DJ before, but in case you are just tuning in he is constantly putting together mixes for the masses. On this one he follows in typical fashion with some very soulful and classic drum and bass stylings. Big steppers. Nice for the late night.

Who hasn't heard of the infamous Lighta! crew out of Vancity by now?? I've definitely mentioned them here on the blog, and although I am right now missing them as they debut Taal Mala's new sound system down at Open Studios, there will be many more Lighta! parties to come. If you ever have a chance to see these guys (and gals) play, do it - solid bass music every time.

This particular mix comes courtesy of kingpin Michael Red. He knows his way around a room full of sweaty bassheads to say the least. I've seen him a handful of times, but he is constantly out playing shows and spreading vibes, representing Vancouver and proper bass sound wherever he goes (and whoever hears it). He is one of the head honchos behind Lighta! and many bass parties here in Van so respect is due. And respect can be shown by downloading this mix and playing it very loud! Dancing is also encouraged.
