This time around, I'm just gonna throw like a million mixes out at you. Or maybe more like seven or eight releases, EPs, mixtapes, mixes, you get it. A little bit of everything that the readers of this blog might be lookin for at any given time. Check them all out below.
Links are in the titles for each.
DJ YODA - The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda
(HIP HOP / RAP / TURNTABLISM)
This lovely jem from 2006 showcases the one and only DJ Yoda in his distinctive narrative and scratch driven sampling and sequencing techniques and styles. Yoda always had a special place in my heart, he had some very original and entertaining turntablecentric tracks and he always ended up in my headphones. This release continues in that style with some guest rappers like Biz Markie, Apathy, Celph Titled, Andy Cooper, and Sway. Check it out for some nice hip hop.
Tittsworth - Diversify Yo Bonds
(BMORE / HOUSE / DUBSTEP / DRUM & BASS / ELECTRO)
Twisting shit out in his usual fashion, Tittsworth comes on a hard Bmore Club tip but dips into a couple of other genres to make a really lively and raw mix. Not much more to say besides check it out for some lively party music and then proceed to shake what ya momma gave ya!!
RUSH DUBSTEP - Down Right Rotten Mix Vol. 1
RUSH DUBSTEP - Down Right Rotten Mix Vol. 2
( DUBSTEP )
Coming straight out of Huddersfield and selecting some rude ass tracks, here are a couple mixes from Rush Dubstep. He also holds down a radio show on www.dubstep.fm.
I honestly don't know much else about him. One of those random chance finds that catches the ear innit? If you know something post it. Otherwise let the mix do the work.
DJ Swann - The Beach Cruiser Mix
( HIP HOP / RAP )
Presented by the people over at The Find Mag comes this four side tape. Did that just blow your mind? Think of it like a double tape set, or maybe one tape with a brief pause in the middle of each side. However you fox with it, there are some nice tracks, blends, mixes, and even some new shit. If you are into boom bap rap or new shit rooted in the classic school of samplers and dope raps, please get this in your system. Includes a track from the homie Teekay from DFE and the Live From CGY blog that we have in the blog roll to the right of this site. It can be downloaded piece by piece, but I say fuck it, so the whole four part selection is included in the link. Vibe on it.
DJ Ekim - Cool Out R+B Vol.1
( FUNK / SOUL / R&B )
This shit is bonkers. Classic R&B and funk. This is the kind of vibe I'm way too into right now, and it is done so right with Ekim on the wheels. This mix just makes me feel so good! It definitely ain't a recent release. Damn. Good classic vibes all day long with this one. Take it with you oustside in the sun or play it for your lady (or man) and get cozy. Whatever. Just don't pass this one by.
Cook Classics - 'The New Classics'
( HIP HOP / RAP / SOUL )
Again, this ain't a new release (it was released almost a year ago), but it is very dope and you likely don't have it yet. If you do, kudos. If not, get it now and give yourself a pat on the back. Some super ill rappers on the new school tip. Dope assortment of styles and beats. All wraped up in a new free package. Why front??
D-Sisive - 'Jonestown'
( RAP )
D-Sisive returns with a typically dark but also pretty hard release for these colder months. He does say that he is returning to his battle roots more on this one but his wit and dark humor are still in stock. Definitely not the typical battle rap shit, definitely not the next man's style, and definitely worth given a listen.
*The opening track was produced by none other than my good friend the Dirty Sample. Check him (and me) in the Work Turkey Music link on the blog roll to the right.*
Of Porcelain - 'A Southern Summer's Breeze'
( MINIMAL / GLITCH / IDM / AMBIENT)
Let's be totally honest. When I first heard this, I skipped through most of it and passed it off. I fronted. But after I had the chance to go back and delve into a bit more it has a very soft and beautiful feeling laced with some darker and more lo fi moments and emotions. This is not a pop release. This is a heavily personal and melancholy and even lonely album. These words can only express what I take from it though. Maybe for you readers it will be hopeful, or heart breaking, or funny, or wack. Whatever. I don't really care. All I can do is show you and you can take what you will from it. Not often I get to hear an album like this though. Also, for those who care, it is a project from ooah of the one and only glitch mob doing something, well, a bit more emo than usual. For the hopeless romantic, apparently.
Tha Doc - For the Skankers Mix (Right click and save link as...)
( REGGAE / DUB / DUBSTEP )
Last but definitely not least, Tha Doc comes out of left field (or more specifically Indiana) with this heavy duty dub thick mix. For the dubsteppers and the dreads alike, or really for anyone that can appreciate some good smoked out riddims and vibes. Please check out tha Doc on facebook to get a couple of other mixes he has up - including one that is more garage influenced - V.I.B.E. Fuck The Haters Mix - and one that is much more, uh, robotic than all the other mixes - Technical Difficulties Mix. He also makes beats. Remember to right click and save link as on those two mixes also.
Now I'm going to bed. Goodnight SS massive, until next time.
